  We resolved the issue for now. The bug within Atlassian Confluence software still exists and we will keep an eye on that. So, what are the findings for now?

  • Confluence is not built for using it as a data analytics tool.
  • So, please avoid, to use it for that kind of use cases! And:
  • If you upload Excel files, please avoid using charts within those files. A corrupt chart in an Excel file caused the Confluence outages.

• Update

  Update: we have investigated the root cause:

  What happened? → An MS Excel file, added to one Confluence page had a corrupt diagram in it. → Confluence wanted to interpret this diagram and crashed within seconds.

  The problem is, that this is a bug in Atlassian Confluence. The greater problem is, that they don't plan to fix that from their side, soon.

  Nevertheless we plan to reactivate the functionality on Monday morning (after deletion of the corrupt Excel fiele). Please keep in mind, that we might have to deactivate it again, if there are other defekt Excel files in the nearly 3.000 spaces running on MSI.

  We still have to keep the the Previews in Confluence deactivated. But we and Atlassian are making progress in our search for the root cause.

  We hope, that we can reactivate the previews, soon.

• Investigating

  Update to the outages: We temporarily have to deactivate the the Previews in Confluence. The consequences:

  • All previews of PDF, Excel & Word files won't work.
  • If you have to download a file, please go to attachments and click on "download all"

  We try to investigate the root cause together with Atlassian and will reactivate the functionalities as soon as possible.
